12 LEAD ECG TRAINER-BIOMEDICAL PROJECTS

Electrocardiograms (ECG) are used to measure the electrical activity of the heart and diagnose arrhythmia. Currently there is no training mannequin that teaches both 12-lead electrode placement and ECG signal interpretation in one device. The purpose of this project is to develop an adult mannequin that teaches placement of electrodes based on anatomical landmarks and provides the student with feedback about the accuracy of their placement. The same mannequin should also produce a variety of ECG output signals to teach diagnostics using 12

16 CHANNEL BRAIN TISSUE STIMULATOR

The pathways of brain circuitry can be studied by delivering current impulses to brain tissue and observing the tissue response. The goal of this project is to develop a current source to be used for in vitro stimulation of rodent neural tissue. The current source must deliver independently controlled currents to 16 separate electrodes on a 16 microelectrode array. In addition, the currents must be controllable via TTL computer logic and have a short response time to the initial signal. The design described in this report uses a transformer to supply a large isolated voltage to 16 circuits which will convert the voltage to an appropriate current. The current on each channel will be controlled by a potentiometer which varies the magnitude of the impulse received from a TTL computer signal. When the computer program supplies an impulse, a corresponding square wave current pulse will be applied to the tissue.

A DATA DELIVERY MECHANISM TO SUPPORT MOBILE USERS IN WIRELESS SENSOR

Networks Wireless sensor networks traditionally consist of sensors perceiving data and sinks gathering the data. In addition, users received required information from the sinks via infrastructure networks. The users, however, should receive the information from the sinks through multi hop communications of disseminated sensor nodes if such users move into the sensor networks without infrastructure networks. Unlike the previous works that only considered the mobility of the sinks. Nevertheless, it is difficult for such approaches about the mobility to exploit the existing data-centric routing algorithms and also for the mobile sinks to function as gateways to connect with the infrastructure. To improve the shortcomings, project suggest a novel viewpoint of mobility for wireless sensor networks and propose a novel architecture and mechanism to support the mobility with multiple static sinks in this project. The multiple static sinks, which are connected with each other via infrastructure, provide high throughput and low latency. Furthermore, they improve hotspot problems and prolong network lifetime. The proposed mechanism finally is evaluated by simulation results about throughput, latency, and network lifetime.

A REMOTE-CONTROL ENGINEERING LABORATORY

In this project, a networked control-system laboratory for the remote control of processes is presented. The laboratory allows the students to develop network-based control systems with the use of an architecture consisting of I/O devices, communication modules, and server-client applications implemented with supervisory control and data acquisition environment facilities, and to operate on real pilot plants through an intranet and the Internet. Three examples were presented, demonstrating the potentiality of the laboratory to remotely control the processes and to develop new network-based control-system structures.

A STUDENT EXPERIMENT METHOD FOR LEARNING THE BASICS OF EMBEDDED SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT INCLUDING HW-SW CO-DESIGN

The applications of embedded system are widespread in not only consumer products and industrial machines but also new applications such as ubiquitous networking or sensor networking. There is a great demand for embedded software engineers in the enterprises, and the education of embedded software engineering in university has become important. The embedded software engineers should acquire both hardware (HW) and software (SW) technologies. Project proposes a student experiment method to nurture embedded SW engineers who understand HW technologies. The method includes embedded SW and HW design experiments, and a HW/SW co-design experiment. The method helps students learn about system modeling, HW/SW trade-off design as well as SW and HW design. project developed these experiments and evaluated them.

A TACTILE SYSTEM FOR INFORMING THE BLIND ON DIRECTION OF A WALK

project presents the design and preliminary studies on vibrotactile method used to guide a blind person in the urban space. A very simple and effective method has been developed. It contains of two vibrators, especially developed control hardware and software. Properties of the proposed system were examined by visually impaired and normal persons using objective and subjective methods. Preliminary results show that it is possible to optimize the pattern of vibrations to reduce fault recognitions.

A WIRELESS ESCAPE SYSTEM FOR INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS USING AD HOC POSITIONING

The safety of producing is a very important thing in the industry. But in some dangerous factories e.g. coal mines, circumstances are not allowed to deploy wires. So we bring in the Ad Hoc wireless sensor network to measure the key physical elements in the workshop. As soon as there are some signs of the accident or the accident has just happened, the system will know it and give the alarm to workers. Our system uses the AOA (angle of arrival) method with the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) filter to get the position of workers. And project propose an improved divisional Dijkstra algorithm to calculate the escape way for the first time to our acknowledgment

A WIRELESS VENDING MACHINE SYSTEM BASED ON GSM

A wireless vending machine system based on the GSM network is developed in this project. First of all, several methods by which project may realize wireless data communication of GSM network are analyzed and compared, the overall structure of vending machine system based on USSD is given an in-depth introduction. Furthermore, control modules which realize data transmission and control function of terminal device, middleware which connects application and BOSS (business operation support system), and transaction software embedded in USSD platform, are also developed respectively. Finally, the operating support system of wireless vending machine system is formed, which can not only integrate vending machines, USSD platform and payment system together, but also manage sale information, logistic information and consumer information on-line. The vending machine system presented in the project has been put into use in several provinces and cities for more than two years. All performance indexes of the system are satisfying.
