Multi means many and processor refers to a device that performs any operation. Multiprocessor system uses two or more CPUs that is Central Processing Units connected to a single computer. Multiprocessor system supports more than one processor. All the processors which are connected are equal that is they perform same function at same time. All the processors access to the same physical memory. Multiprocessing refers to the ability of a system to support more than one processor and the ability to allocate tasks between them. Multiprocessing sometimes refers to the execution of multiple concurrent software processes in a system as opposed to a single process at any one instant. However, the terms multitasking and multiprogramming are the best suitable words referred to describe this word which is implemented mostly in software, whereas multiprocessing is more appropriate to describe the use of multiple hardware CPUs.
